Of course, you will be more than happy if you wind up just as tall as him if he’s 6 feet tall unless it’s your ultimate goal to become an NBA player, and standing 6 feet and 7 inches can work to your advantage.

So, will you be taller than your dad? Yes, it is very much possible for you to be taller than your dad. This is most especially true if your mom is blessed with an impressive height as well. Having tall parents is a recipe for having tall children. After all, much of your height is determined by the genes you inherit from your father and mother.

Predicting your height based on the height of your parents is very much possible. This does not mean, however, that the result you will get from the prediction will be your actual height.

Making a prediction is simply based on how tall your dad and mom are. It does not include factors that can have an impact on your height.

Some of them include your nutritional intake, amount of physical activity that you are getting, as well as your overall health status.

Worry not if both of your parents are short. That’s because there is hope for you to become a tall person if you have tall relatives — you may have obtained some of your genes from them, so you can be tall even if you have short parents!

The Reason Why Your Mom is Shorter Than Your Dad

Definitely, you can rest assured that you will end up tall if both of your parents are tall. Most of the time, however, this is not the case. It’s no secret that most parents consist of fathers that are taller than mothers.

Of course, there are also parents that are nearly the same height. There are also parents consisting of mothers that are taller than fathers.

If you are wondering why most of the time, moms are shorter than dads, wonder no more! Here’s the reason for this: girls usually stop growing faster than boys during their teenage years.

Between 10 years old and 14 years old, girls tend to have their final growth spurt. This only means that by the time that they are 15 years of age, they have already reached their full height.

As always, there are exceptions to every rule — some girls may still keep on growing a few years after the completion of puberty.

And if you search for stories on the internet, you may come across those that are about women who are able to grow taller even in their 20s or 30s!

Your Dad is Taller Than Your Mom Due to Delayed Puberty

As just discussed, girls tend to reach the end of their puberty very early. But that’s okay because their puberty starts early, too. Puberty among boys, on the other hand, is completely different.

Boys undergo puberty between 12 years old and 16 years old. Clearly, they are late-bloomers compared to girls. This is the reason why most girls in their early teens are taller than boys in their early teens.

That’s perfectly fine because although boys grow tall later than girls, they tend to keep on growing long after girls have stopped growing.

The reason for this is that puberty in boys lasts until 16 years of age. So, in other words, boys are given the opportunity to outgrow girls as they have longer puberty.

Again, it is still very much possible for some boys to grow taller after the age of 16.

Whether male or female, height increase may still take place due to factors such as delayed closing of the growth plates of the long bones, and also providing the body with plenty of nutrients and activities that encourage height increase.

Daughters are Shorter Than Sons for the Same Reason

Because of matters regarding puberty, if your parents have a daughter, it’s very much likely for you to be taller than her when the two of you are already adults.

However, you can expect her to grow taller than you at a much faster rate during your teenage years. Fret not because chances are you will catch up to her and wind up taller.

Other than your sister, it is very much possible for you to be taller than your mother as well. It’s a combination of the duration of puberty as well as the genes.

Don’t forget the role played by nutrition, exercise, and overall health — scientists say that these things can have a considerable impact on your height.

Take, for example, the Netherlands: based on studies, about 2% of boys in the said country are taller than their dads. Also, about 6% of girls are taller than their fathers.

In Australia, the difference is about half of the said percentages. Experts agree that it can be blamed on the abundance of nutritious foods in the countries mentioned.

People in those countries are also generally healthy, and being in the pink of health, most especially during puberty can help a teenage kid to reach his or her maximum growth potential without much trouble.
